2nd Myanmar Upstream Summit
As a participant on a panel on ‘NATIONAL CONTENT: GOING BEYOND LOCAL CONTENT TO ENSURE THE DEVELOPMENT OF MYANMAR CAPACITY ‘ at the 2nd Myanmar Upstream Summit in Yangon on 25 October, Vicky Bowman made a presentation on ‘Local Content – Learning from Experience Elsewhere’.
MCRB’s sector-wide impact assessment on oil and gas recommended that companies should: ‘Develop strategies for creating positive impacts at the local, regional and national level’, and Vicky highlighted ongoing in-country initiatives to support that as well as comparing with the approach in Ghana.
The Upstream Summit was attended by many of the oil and gas companies currently entering Myanmar, as well as representatives from government. Daw Wah Wah Thaung of Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) noted the support which the Ministry had given to the SWIA and welcomed its recommendations, highlighting in particular the need for companies to adopt robust approaches to managing their impacts in a manner that provides benefit to Myanmar, its people and business alike.
