Celebrating LGBT+ Equality on 17 May 2023
The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) is celebrated annually on 17 May. The theme this year is ‘Together Always: United in Diversity’.
Myanmar Sustainable Business Network, which is a partnership by UNDP, MCRB and Yever encourage companies and other organisations in Myanmar to join others worldwide who will stand up for equality for those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) by going rainbow on the day, taking a stand against discrimination, and displaying a rainbow flag either on social media or physically, if you have a flag to fly (we regret that this year we are unable to provide them).
Feel free to take a team photo with the flag and post to social media with the hashtag #IDAHOT2023Myanmar (you can see some examples of what organisations did in 2022).
You can also post a short message about why you are flying the flag:
We are proudly flying the Rainbow Flag this year’s IDAHOT day to show our support for diversity in our community. By participating, we are proudly saying ‘No’ to homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, and helping to raise awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
If you can’t take team photo, here’s some other ideas for social media posts:
You could also encourage staff to change their Facebook cover photo for the day:
If your team is still working remotely, your staff could download and add a rainbow backdrop to your meeting.
And don’t forget to take another look at the MCRB/Colors Rainbow Guide to Help Businesses Embrace LGBT+ Equality in Myanmar. This gives guidance on what you can do to avoid discrimination, navigate the complex issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE), and build an inclusive workplace.
