MCRB Responds to the Myanmar Government’s Consultation on Internet Gateway Services

MCRB has provided input into the Government consultation on Internet gateway services, (Deadline 31 January) with comments focussed on the privacy aspects of the proposal, namely that companies should submit data storage plans to government,  even though there are no legal requirements for data privacy and lawful interception in place; and that companies should retain customer records for at least six months after termination of services.

MCRB has made an input to the UN Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights concerning the High Commissioner’s report on the practical application of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to the activities of technology companies.

A safe and secure digital environment, based on international standards on data protection, rule of law and international human rights, is important to the Myanmar’s sustainable development.

MCRB, together with other stakeholders, is concerned about the latest amendments to the draft Cybersecurity Law circulated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications on 13 January 2022.
