MCRB together with EarthRights International, Oxfam International, and the International Commission of Jurists, has submitted written comments on the ‘second tranche’ of the Draft Rules for the Myanmar Investment Law.

These comments follow on from earlier written comments, and also inputs made in the public consultation process. The Myanmar Government has published a third tranche of the draft Rules which will be the subject of a public consultation meeting on Monday 13 February, prior to the finalisation of the Rules, which the Government has committed to bringing into effect by 31 March.

The NGO comments focus in particular on the importance of encouraging responsible investment, transparency, consultation including at local level, and handling of community grievances.
